Yag laser surgery is used primarily to treat secondary cataract that ocurrs subsequent to the primary cataract procedure. These patients develop clouded vision following cataract surgery and yag laser surgery eliminates the need for invasive surgery. A second use for Yag Laser Surgery is in the preventative treatment of acute narrow angle glaucoma episodes. A small window is created in the peripheral iris to allow pressure reduction.
The first type may eliminate the need for invasive surgery in patients who develop clouded vision following cataract surgery. The second type of Yag Laser Surgery, for patients with narrow angle glaucoma, may prevent acute attack. Recovery from Yag Laser Surgery is often immediate.
